Superchunk tour dates [12 Jul 2010|10:13am]

Anyone know what's up with Superchunk tour dates for San Francisco? The Merge web site has the following schedule posted for October:

13 Vancouver BC Venue Nightclub
14 Seattle WA The Showbox
15 Portland OR Wonder Ballroom
19 Los Angeles CA The Music Box at Fonda

From a timing and geographic perspective, that gap in there looks like it's designed to be filled by San Francisco... yet it isn't there. To see Superchunk, Telekinesis, and Teenage Fanclub in the same night would be something worth traveling to Portland for, so I'd do it necessary. But every time in recent memory that Superchunk has toured the west coast, they've done two nights in SF. Is it safe to assume they're just working on securing a venue?

Just a heads up to Merritt fans out there.

Spotify seems to have quite a lot of Magnetic Fields records, even Merrit's version of the Nun's Litany, pretty comprehensive.

Jon Wurster says [15 Jul 2008|09:36am]

I know you never thought you'd live to see this day, but your fantasy of watching Superchunk perform in an aging Seattle football stadium is about to become reality.

The Chunk will be playing our first Pacific Northwest show since 2001 at this year's Bumbershoot Festival on Monday, September 1st along with Death Cab for Cutie and other rock groups whose names I honestly don't know.

Re: Superchunk/Arcade Fire for Obama [26 Apr 2008|03:12pm]

If anyone was planning on driving to NC for the shows, the tickets are long gone, so I wouldn't bank on being able to get in easily.

I wish I could be there though...

Superchunk and Arcade Fire support Obama! [25 Apr 2008|09:40pm]

Arcade Fire and Superchunk playing Obama Early Vote Rallies in Greensboro, NC and Carrboro, NC on May 1 & 2
Obama Campaign Announces “Change Rocks” One-Stop Early Voting Concerts

Senator Barack Obama's campaign today announced two concerts to headline the campaign's One-Stop Early Voting drive. Featuring Arcade Fire and Superchunk, the “Change Rocks” concerts in Carrboro and Greensboro will highlight the campaign's effort to encourage One-Stop Early Voting at college campuses and other locations across the state.

Tickets can be picked up in Forsythe, Guilford, Randolph, Alamance, Orange, Durham, and Wake Counties during early voting hours starting Thursday April 24. A list of locations is below.

"This is a defining moment for this country," said Win Butler of Arcade Fire. "We want to encourage people to get up, get out, and go vote."

"People are incredibly excited about this election and this primary," said Mac McCaughan of Superchunk. "Our music is a unique way to get people involved and participating."

Arcade Fire is a high-profile independent band in North America. Their first album, Funeral, and the single "Cold Wind” were nominated for Grammys in the best Alternative Rock Album and Best Song Written for Television, Film, or Other Media categories respectively. Their second album, Neon Bible, also was nominated for the Best Alternative Rock Album Grammy. The group recently came off a worldwide tour.

The band Superchunk was formed in 1989 in Chapel Hill. As one of the most popular independent bands in the country, they have played at concerts and festivals around the world. They have released more than eight albums, written a film score, and headlined benefit concerts.

The Obama campaign is making a statewide push to encourage voters to take advantage of the state's first-ever One Stop Early Voting process, which allows voters who are not registered or who have never voted before to register and vote at the same place, on the same day, all at once. Last week, the campaign announced 1-888-NC EARLY, a hotline that easily gives voters information on their early voting locations. This weekend, voters across North Carolina held more than 100 canvasses to take Senator Obama's message to voters and encourage them to vote early.

Pitchfork sez: [22 Apr 2008|12:55pm]

For those who recall scouring eBay for $100+ copies of that holy trinity of early Conor Oberst cassettes (not me, I swear)-- 1993's Water, 1994's Here's to Special Treatment, and 1995's The Soundtrack to My Movie-- August 4, 2008 will mark a particularly special occasion. For it is on that special day that the Bright Eye'd troubadour will release a very special album, his first solo offering in some 13 years. That's like half an Oberst lifetime!

The self-titled affair contains a dozen tracks and comes at us courtesy of-- no, not Saddle Creek...nope, not Team Love either...and heavens no, not a major-- but rather Merge Records, home to longtime Oberst buddy M. Ward and something I keep hearing about called the Arcade Fire, whatever that is.

Oberst laid Conor Oberst to tape in Mexico earlier this year with help from his pal Andy LeMaster (Now It's Overhead) and a "special band" known as the Mystic Valley Band. If that sounds familiar, perhaps you noticed Conor and the Mystic Valley Band among the Austin City Limits elite or caught them live at the tail end of 2007. The new crew has also announced a couple more festival appearances in the months to come, with the promise of a tour "throughout the summer."

On Saturday, April 19, 2008, hundreds of independently owned music stores across the country will celebrate Record Store Day. Merge will be doing our part to help these great cultural institutions celebrate by giving away a FREE limited edition split seven-inch record featuring new unreleased songs by Destroyer and Wye Oak.

The only way to get one of these seven-inches is to visit a participating independent music store on Record Store Day, Saturday, April 19, and see if they have one on hand.

Track listing:
A. Destroyer, "Madame Butterflies"
B. Wye Oak, "Prodigy"

The Rosebuds say: [10 Apr 2008|01:31pm]

Our new remix album "Sweet Beats, Troubled Sleep" is FREE!
Body: That is correct,

Just go to the link below and download away.

Make copies for your friends and litter the world with these new remixes!

http://www. mergerecords. com/store/store_detail. php?catalog_id=536

We truly love the way these songs are recontructed. They are way more than just your standard 4 on the floor remix.

Trust us! Here is the Merge Records write up and remixer list below:

The Rosebuds released a "dark, sexy, danceable" record entitled Night of the Furies in the Spring of 2007. Thursday, April 10 marks the one year anniversary of the release of that record.

Night of the Furies contained songs of despair and loss that roused friends of the band to present them with personal reconstructions of these dark tales. The resulting assortment of dance tunes and lullabies delighted Ivan and Kelly, and inspired them to release Sweet Beats, Troubled Sleep (Night of the Furies Remixed) as a free download available only here at Merge.

Remixers include Roger O' Donnell (Roger O'Donnell, The Cure, The Psychedelic Furs), Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Mac McCaughan (Portastatic), Radical9, EL VENADO ( from Mexico City), Luke Warm, Fire Hazzard, JYU,
Jimmy the B, and Wes Phillips.

Just get on over there and get yourself a free record!

The desperate things you made me do... [06 Feb 2008|04:25pm]

me and a friend are in New York for the Magnetc fields gig, we desperately want tickets so we can do a review on it in the English press.
We have been trying to get press for a while now and no one was telling us yes or no, and now we are getting no response at all.

So basiclly it's taking so long to now be ignored we need to get tickets. If anyone has any spare please get in touch and I can meet you there with the cash (and a bit extra as you'd be helping us out) otherwise I have to spend lots of money on tickets that are A) rubbish B) really overpriced) C) may not get here in time.

If this breaks any comm rules I am forever sorry. Just give the word and I shall delete.
